Handel - Messiah

with the Serlo Consort
Andrew Morley - conductor

Handel's Messiah needs barely any introduction to audiences - as probably the most frequently-performed of all the choral masterpieces, and with all-time favourite moments including The Trumpet Shall Sound, For Unto Us A Child Is Born, and of course the Hallelujah Chorus, it will be familiar to all.

However, it is most often heard in concert with large choirs, using forces far beyond those available to Handel. It seems likely that the premiere of the work, in Dublin in 1742, used only 3 or 4 singers to a part, and the solo arias would have been sung by members of the choir. Our own modest attempt at recreating this more intimate version of the work will suit the comparatively compact dimensions of St Paul's Church; and the superb vocal talents of the Serlo Consort will take the performance to the greatest of heights.

It will undoubtedly be one of the high points of the Sinfonia's season - we very much hope to welcome you all there!

Tickets £10/£8 - available on the door from 7.00 p.m.
