GOOD FRIDAY CONCERT
Bach - St John Passion

Serlo Consort and soloists
Tom Cockett -
Evangelist
Andrew Morley
- conductor

J S Bach wrote his St John Passion for the Good Friday Vespers in 1724, while he was in charge of the music at St Thomas Church in Leipzig. Compared to the St Matthew Passion, it is a smaller-scale work, designed specifically for a chamber-style performance. However, the emotional intensity of the musical narrative, particularly the central section that depicts the argument between Jesus, Pontius Pilate and the crowd, belies the small numbers needed for performance.

Those members of our audience who attended the Sinfonia performance of Handel's Messiah in 2010 (also with the Serlo Consort) will know how powerful and moving the Good Friday concert can be. We hope very much to be able to welcome you all to this very special performance.

Tickets £10/£8 - available on the door from 7.00 p.m.
